♥ Make the world a better place?♥

By Kelsey

Have you ever wondered how terrible we are on the environment? Well in this research paper you will find out for sure. We are really hard on the environment. Oils spills are getting more and more common over the years. The world has to suffer for something we did. We can stop that but it takes time. And works that some people don’t want to do or don’t have the money to do. People don’t realize how much the environment has to suffer. But they will someday.

People can use the environment responsibly by using solar power. Not many people have solar panels for their house but we can change that. Also if people change to electric cars the world could be a better place. Gas cars use a lot of natural gas. But soon that is going to run out. What would are we going to do then? All the books have an effect on the environment. Oils spills hurt the environment, like in to drill or not to drill and deep Trouble. Also we were too greedy like in the dust bowl. We wanted more money and that had a cost.

Speaking of the dust bowl do you know what is it or what happened. The dust bowl is when we needed to sell wheat to England. They used so much farmland for wheat over and over again that the soil was useless Prairie plants roots are strong and deep some roots are 11feeet deep. We put wheat with less than a foot of roots which caused the dust bowl when high winds occurred. So that means it was man made causes. I think we learned our lesson. That we shouldn’t be so greedy. And is it not all about the money. And we should save plants. And take more pride.

Vocab time. The dust bowl happened because of erosion. Erosion -is like weathering. There are different types of erosions like water erosions and soil erosions. Cover crops – some plants have a cover over them to keep to roots strong and secure so the wind won’t take it away. Farmers call it cover crops. Soil is formed by parent material. Wind and water break down parent material. These vocab words go with the dust bowl by cover crops. Farmers did not use cover crops. The wind blew away a lot of crops. Leaning to dust everywhere due to the less fertile soil. Also farmers cut down all the prairie grass for wheat to sell for Europe. Wheat is only less than feet deep so there roots are less secure. But prairie grass root can be as deep 11 feet deep so they a more secure. Also erosion happened soil erosion due to the high winds. This was a huge part in the dust bowl.

There is other books like to drill or not to drill is about the debate on what?

A- Polar bears

B- Coffee

C- Trees

D- Oil

If they should drill oil in ANWR animal refuge in Alaska. Also there is a book similar to that one called Deep Trouble. There was an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. They spilled 5 million gallons of oil spilled in the gulf. They connect with each other because they are both about oil. One is an oil spill disaster. In ANWR it’s in risk of an oil spill disaster. It also goes with Dust Bowl because we are greedy about wanting more money from selling wheat that we are being greedy. And for the other books they are being greedy about oil.

There is also a movie called Lorax. In the movie the Lorax the man cuts down all the trees on the land for his business... and they Lorax tried to stop that. There is also a movie called WALLE. In Walle we used the earth so much that the world was useless. So they had to move to a different planet. In seek for a better planet. In both WALLE and Lorax they were being greedy. These connect with the other books like the dust bowl and oil spills. They were being greedy for oil and money. They used up there resources.

There is a land called Easter Island. It is a mystery island a lot of legends and myths are told. Like the moving statues is one of them. How Indians sculpted statues and the statues walked. But the Indians used all the trees for statues. So the Indians couldn’t make canoes to go out of the island because of the wood from trees. They couldn’t make weapons. Also the trees were animal’s habitats. Soon all the birds moved elsewhere due to no trees. So they couldn’t eat birds. It connects with the dustbowl because we cut down prairie grass and planted wheat. This caused a dust disaster.

I learned some lessons from these books and movies. That we should take more pride in the earth. That we caused dusters from are actions and that shows that we should think of are home before hurting it. And that a lot of people don’t know what they are doing to the earth. Also that we need to think of what we are doing before doing it. And with that, are home will be better but all we need is time.

We do have some changes we need to make in the near future to prevent these disasters from happening again. Like our economy laws. Maybe that there should be a certain amount of oil we should take from the earth and only certain amounts of money we should spend on buying it from other countries. Also to have limited amount of gas cars produced so some people are forced to change to electric cars. Also we need to make better desions on what to buy. Like electric cars over gas or solar panels. Also that we should use less electricity. Be more fuel efficient as well. I hope you learned something and go out and MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE!!!!!! Maybe this will inspire you’
